The GREENIES® Brand and Service Dogs

My peeps over at The GREENIES® Brand has launched a program to provide grants funding the cost of vital dental care procedures for service dogs:

Good oral health is vital for all pets, especially those who provide a service. A service dog’s mouth is one of its most important assets. In order to perform essential daily tasks for their owners a service dog’s mouth must be in its healthiest state. Unfortunately, dental health issues continue to be one of the leading health risks for pets, service dogs included.

That’s why The GREENIES® Brand has partnered with the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) to provide grants that help fund the cost of vital dental care procedures for service dogs. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), 80% of dogs show signs of oral disease by age three, which has been linked to systemic disease of the heart, kidney and lungs.

Redness along the gums and smelly dog breath are both are signs of an oral health issue. While daily brushing works, unfortunately, many pet-parents can’t commit to it, which is where pet specialty dental chews help. However, they need to have the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC) Seal of Acceptance. If a treat doesn’t have the seal, its efficacy has not been independently reviewed. A product like GREENIES® Dental Chews, which has the VOHC Seal, has been shown to meet or exceed the pre-set VOHC standards of efficacy in reducing dental plaque and tartar.

Through the Oral Care for Service Dogs program, board-certified veterinary dentists perform oral health procedures for registered service dogs that have displayed oral and dental diseases that can cause pain or discomfort, compromising the dogs’ health and preventing them from performing their essential duties effectively.

“The GREENIES® Brand is proud to help provide dental care services for dogs that selflessly give so much for the individuals they serve,” said Monica Glass, Senior Corporate Affairs Manager for The Nutro Company, the makers of the GREENIES® Brand. “We hope the program will reinforce the importance of pet oral health to the entire pet community as we invite them to join the brand in its support.”

I fondly remember all the teenie greenies you donated to a shelter Imy human worked at plus stuffed freebie toys… I still have mine!! You also came to our pug meetup and have us a pug tshirt and greenie and intro bag!

I had 1/2 of my teeth pulled this year 😦 and wish I had more greenies! Even with half my teeth I can eat a greenie! Also, pill pockets are the best… I have many issues but you wouldn’t know as I take my medicine immediately if given in a pill pocket! I am a rescue…I rescued my human several years ago and have been making sure she laughs out Loud every day!

I live in KC your home town! At my vets I see many dogs that @chainofhopeKC has saved. If you are not familiar with them look at or their BLOG. You will be so impressed that I bet you donate a large amount if greenies and pill pockets and Nutro and toys for Thanks giving! They will be most grateful and I will spread the word how amazingly wonderful you are via many social networks free. I can send you a photo of me surrounded by your donation and post it like fire across the globe! Also I will place it on my walk if heroes or whatever clever name comes to be on my soon to be unveiled blog!

I do not volunteer with @chsinofhopeKC , so there’s nothing in it for me except perhaps they would give me a teeny greenie 😉 I admire them and hope KC Mayor Sly James forms a task force with them as they help save dogs and cats as well as educate (save) people and that ripples into the future!

I am a therapy dog and love to help people! I’m a Pug what can I say?
