“He sleeps as dogs do when wives bake cakes.”

~Scottish Proverb

I just loved how The Bandit would sleep while I was close by.

These were all taken in early 2008 before his congested heart failure condition worsen.

Woofs fur Wordless Wednesday.

“And so what do dogs want? They want what they want when they want it. Just like us.”

Merle’s Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog

The Bandit certainly was a freethinking dog!

Spottyed Snuggles #106 Delight

“One of the greatest gifts we receive from dogs is the tenderness they evoke in us. The disappointments of life, the injustices, the battering events that are beyond our control, and the betrayals we endure, from those we befriended and loved, can make us cynical and turn our hearts into flint – on which only the matches of anger and bitterness can be struck into flame. By their delight in being with us, the reliable sunniness of their disposition, the joy they bring to playtime, the curiosity with which they embrace each new experience, dogs can melt cynicism, and sweeten the bitter heart.”
La Petite Grande Dame Cherie 2009
She definitely was a delight to have here, even if it was only for a short time.

Spottyed Snuggles #103 Masters

“Dogs are masters of creating emotionally safe space just by being themselves. … it is as if something deep within our souls resonates with their energy, their unwavering unconditional love and unbridled joy to be in our presence, their undivided loyalty, and complete trust in us. Dogs make us feel special, and teach us by example to relish simple pleasures and live totally in the moment. They teach us there is only now and only who you are, who you are with, and what you are doing right then–and
what could be better than to sniff the wind and be in the company of those you love?”

They certainly created that emotionally safe space for me after the passing of my husband.

Spottyed Snuggles #100 Wow!

The Bandit and Miss CookiesNCream

Wow!

First, I like to mention that this is the 100th Spottyed Snuggles post. Thank you to all the readers who subscribed, commented, Liked, and shared this blog.  I really didn’t have a clue of where this blog would take me when I first started and I am comforted knowing that many appreciate my sharing the love we had.

Secondly, it’s been almost six years since the passing of Miss CookiesNCream and The Bandit, which seems surrealistic to me. I have those moments of them being with me, yet the calendar tells me their crossings to the Rainbow Bridge happened in 2008.  Of course, I wanted to commemorate the specific dates, but it seems that calendars and I sometimes do not quite agree or sync up at the appropriate times.

Miss Cookies was my baby. She was my Valentine’s present from the now late hubby at the age of 12 weeks old, arrived here at the end of February 1996. She is the reason and inspiration to who I am today. I couldn’t have had a better dog to introduce me to being a  good pet parent.

The Bandit, adopted in 2000, was estimated to be 12-18 months old, when I decided to ‘foster’ him. Let’s just say that I am/was a foster failure. He had his issues but through love , patience, consistency, with a little guidance by Miss Cookies, those issues were not as severe as when he first came here.  In 2002, when my hubby passed, he did lots of  silly things that got me laughing and being active with them. He kept me from falling into a deep depression.

It is with gratitude that I dedicate this post to my beloved Spotts. I am a better person having had them in my life and will always cherish the memories we had together.

Happy (almost) Wordless Wednesday to you. Woof!

Spottyed Snuggles #92 Once

Miss CookiesNCream

“Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more. You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement. They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful. There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are. The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever. Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all. A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby. Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.”

A tribute to Miss CookiesNCream, my first, who opened my eyes!

Spottyed Snuggles #84 Agenda

IMG_1537

“The dog’s agenda is simple, fathomable, overt: I want. “I want to go out, come in, eat something, lie here, play with that, kiss you. There are no ulterior motives with a dog, no mind games, no second-guessing, no complicated negotiations or bargains, and no guilt trips or grudges if a request is denied.”
― Caroline Knapp

She was the girl that started it all. Taken 05/08.

Spottyed Snuggles #83 Imprints

“People leave imprints on our lives, shaping who we become in much the same way that a symbol is pressed into the page of a book to tell you who it comes from. Dogs, however, leave paw prints on our lives and our souls, which are as unique as fingerprints in every way.”
― Ashly Lorenzana

The Spottyed Ones left theirs on my heart in their own special way.

Woofs for Wordless Wednesday.

Spottyed Snuggles #73 Soul

A Dogs Soul

Every dog must have a soul, somewhere deep inside

Where all his hurts and grievances are buried with his pride.

Where he decides the good and bad, the wrong way from the right,

And where his judgement carefully is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place, where every thought abides,

A sort of close acquaintance that he trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for himself, He cannot speak,

Rebuked, He finds within his soul, the comfort he must seek.

He’ll love, tho’he is unloved, and he’ll serve tho’badly used,

And one kind word will wipe away the times when he’s abused.

Altho’ his heart may break in two, his love will still be whole,

Because God gave to every dog an understanding Soul!
